In 1939 Roscoe Turner won the Thompson Trophy race. Ever since, the National Air Races have been dominated by ex-military aircraft. Tsunami is the first totally home-built Unlimited racer since “The Golden Era.”
IT'S CLASSIFIED
Chief engineer Bruce Boland, knows a thing or two when it comes to designing fast airplanes. For 34 years he has developed government aircraft in the highly classified “Skunk Works” program for Lockheed Martin and has been behind almost every major speed record in the last 60 years.
3,800 HORSEPOWER
Powered by a highly modified 12 cylinder Rolls Royce Merlin engine, capable of producing up to an incredible 3,800 horsepower. North Americans popular WWII fighter, the P-51 Mustang, used the same power-plant, but could only produce around 1,600 hp.
BUILT FOR SPEED
The fuselage was designed to flow back absolutely, minimally from the Merlin engine, and one look at her slim body confirms that she was built for speed as the entire aircraft tries to hide behind the engine.
